Crumbling Cairo

work in progress documenting the forgotten buildings in downtown Cairo that have not been restored and in many cases left to crumble. The number of protected historic buildings in the city is low as authorities struggle to come to terms with a rapid surge of residential development in the form of large ‘condos’ being established on the outskirts of the city. For many wealthy Cairenes the move out of the dusty Cairo to newer residential areas is a goal.
